Three years ago at Christmas, Deb and I decided to participate in giving Christmas gifts to seniors through the Council on Aging. We were shocked to see that some of the requests from seniors were day to day items like toothpaste, stamps, and flashlights to name but a few. We learned that many of the seniors are homebound, living on fixed incomes, with no families and often must decide between purchasing food or their medications. After speaking with our contact at the Council On Aging, we decided to provide a bag of fruit once a month that would be delivered to their home along with their meals. Once a month we pick up cases of fruit and bring them to the office where everyone helps us put the fruit in individual bags to be delivered. As we begin our third year, the feedback from the seniors has been very gratifying.
